Youth players skills are based on the team's country. For a team in a top country the skill average for a new youth is 70, meaning they can be any value but usually will be a value around 70. As an exception we have the secondary skills, like passing and shooting for a defender or tackle and passing for an attacker, these skill will have an average value of 60. For multi-position players (DA, MD, AM, etc), the two main skills will have an average of 65. DAs for instance have tackle and shooting 65 and passing 60, in the average.

During the player lifetime he will get 20 potential points per skill, in the average. This points will be used to increase his skill values while he gets more experienced by playing matches. Nevertheless, these potential points are not given all at once, but only part of them per season, 10% in the average.

Keepers won't improve tackle and shooting while the other players won't improve their keeping ability. Therefore the total potential points received are different between keepers and the others (120 points for keepers and 140 for the other players, 20 per skill). When a keeper improves he'll receive from 1 to 5 points on any skills except tackle and shooting while the other players receive from 1 to 6 in any skill except keeping. During the turn where the player improved their improved skills are displayed in blue in the team players screen, for the team's manager only.

Players need a certain amount of experience points to improve and the only way to earn these points is playing matches, at least 35 minutes. The number of points required for each improvement depends on their team's coaching level (around 60 for level 0 coaching and around 15 for level 10). Players on second division teams need an extra amount of points, around 10% more. Different matches give the players different amount of points, as follows:

-Friendlies: 1 point
-League and National Cup: 3 points
-UEFA Cup and Sudamericana: 4 points
-Champions League and Libertadores: 5 points
-Club World Cup: 6 points

At the age of 31 players skills start to decrease. Similarly to the potential, the maximum to be decreased is pre-defined and a player can retire without decreasing all possible skill points. The decreasing varies between 1% and 10% of each skill. Every 12 turns an old player may lose 1 point in a particular skill, the older the player the higher the chance of losing the point. The odds are 10% * (player age - 30), so a 31 years old players has 10% of chance of losing 1 point every 12 turns, a 35 years old has 50%, a 40 years old has 100%. Skills whose value decreases are displayed in red during the turn where it happened.
