Team Setup
From RS Wiki
This is one of the most important pages on RubySoccer. Here you are able to setup your squad positioning, creating strategies and defining tactics. Given the complexity and importance of the actions on this page we'll explain it in a few sections.

[edit] Creating, copying and deleting formations
In the top bar of this page you'll see the currently selected formation and a select box with a list of all your formation. Right beside the select box you have some icons to create a new formation, save a copy of the current formation with another name, delete the current formation or set the current formation as your default.
[edit] Basic Tactics and Squad
Here you can setup your team's passing, shooting and tackling strategies, choose penalty kick, free kick and corner kick takers as well as select the players that will be part of your squad. The tactics portion is in the left side and allows you to change your passing frequency and distance, shooting distance, tackling intensity and set pieces players. Your changes won't take effect until you press the update button in the bottom.
The players lists around the field are ordered by the position's main skill. Defenders are ordered by tackle, midfielders by passing, goalkeepers by keeping and attackers by shooting. There is no tie-break, meaning that two defenders with same tackle value for instance may be in any order. This order does not guarantee the players in the top are better than the ones in the bottom of the lists, they're just a way to organize the players in a way that makes sense. Youth players have a small green and black icon right beside their names. Placing your mouse cursor over a player's name will display a box in the bottom of the field with the player information.
The player icon's color tells you in which position that player can play. Green is for defenders, yellow for midfielders, red for attackers and blue for goalkeepers. Some players are able to play in two positions and therefore have 2 colors. You are allowed to use a player in the wrong position, but he will receive a -3 penalty in all skills during the match.
For squad assignment you must simply drag and drop the players to the field. To remove a player from the field drop him in the BENCH area. The goalkeeper should be placed in the center of the GK area, in the bottom of the field. Changes to the squad are saved automatically.
[edit] Formation Strategies
On this section you can setup actions to be executed during the matches. This allows you to change your player positioning or replace players based on the rules you define. Remeber the maximum number of substitutions allowed on official matches is 3 and on friendlies is 10. Let's go through all the options you have to setup a rule.
[edit] General Options
For All Formations - this allows you to create a rule to be applied in any of your formations instead of only in the current one Match Type - defines if the rule is applicable for home, away or all matches
[edit] Time based rules
Using this kind of rule you can setup conditions like "After minute 20 if we are not ahead..." or "After minute 60 if we are behind by 2" and so on. The first field specify the start point for this rule to be checked (5 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes or any if you want to specify a result based rule only). In the second field you define the match score that should trigger the strategy (ahead, not behind, tie, ...). When you specify ahead or behind as the result conditions, there is a third optional field where you say the goal difference, for example ahead by 2 (or more) or behind by 1 (or more).
Example: field values are 50, ahead and 2, this means the strategy will be applied after minute 50 if you are ahead by 2 (or more). If the score is 1-0 at 50 minutes, nothing will happen, but if later on your team scores again making it 2-0 the strategy will be applied. If the score is 3-0 at 50 minutes, the strategy will be applied.
[edit] Event based rules
These rules let you create strategies to react when there are red cards or injuries during the match. They can be generic like "Red card to any player" or "Any player injured", a little bit more specific like "Red card to midfielder", "Attacker injured" or target a specific player "John Doe injured".
[edit] Strategy Action
Now let's explain how to setup the strategy actions to replace your players or change their positioning.
Position to apply (from) - here you specify the exact spot you want to target in the field, using the position (G, D, M or A), side (L, LC, C, RC, R) and mentality (-1, 0, 1). For goalkeepers the last two fields can be left blank. If during the match there is no player on the specified position the strategy won't be applied.
Field reassing (to) - these fields are optional and are used to specify where the player located on the from fields explained above should be repositioned. If there is already a player in the to position, nothing will happen.
Player substitute - optional field where you can say who you want to replace the player specified in the from fields. It can be a generic player like "Best defender" or the exact player. Best in this case is the player considered to be the best available for that position by the game intelligence. It is important to notice that the player side won't be taken in consideration while choosing the best player.
Either the "to" fields or the player substitute field must be populated, otherwise the strategy won't be created. If you populated only the "to" fields, it means you want to change one of your players position. If you populate only the player substitute field, it means you want just to replace one of your players. If you populate both, it means you want to remove a player from one position and replace him with another player in a different position.
[edit] Individual Tactics
Here you can define a customized behavior for the situation where your team has the ball (offense) and when the opponent has the ball (defense). The general rule is that a player can "move" at most 2 squares away from the original position. Let's consider the M C 0 position as an example. If you use the "move forward" option when your team has the ball, the player will behave as an M C +1 regarding his positioning and behaviour when your team has the ball. If you use the all forward option, he will behave as an A C -1. Forward left, M LC +1; Move right, M RC 0; All left, M L 0; All back, D C +1.
Any side or position penalties will be applied. For example, if you midfielder ends up in defense due to a move back or all back instruction, he will receive the -3 penalty while following the instruction (team with the ball or team without the ball) or if a center player ends up in the most right or most left position as a result of the instructions, he will also receive penalties accordingly.
